Reimagined for the City

Shopping Moldova is more than a retail space.
It is a contemporary Casa Mare —
a place where the city gathers, connects and belongs.

Through collaboration with local artists,
this project transforms the boutique into
a cultural landmark rooted in Moldovan identity
and expressed through contemporary design.
“STRUCTURES OF BELONGING ”

Igor Nicoruc × Nadia Izosimova
IDEA 1
Tradition is not static.
It is evolving.
A large-scale wall panel combining carved wood, felted wool, and grafic elements.

The artwork is built as a system of interwoven vertical structures, where wood and textile coexist and overlap. Wooden elements form the structural backbone of the composition, while wool and textile introduce softness, rhythm, and color.

Inspired by Moldovan craft traditions, the piece reinterprets them through a contemporary visual language based on abstraction, layering, and material contrast.

The composition can be read as a cityscape — not literal, but constructed through textures and rhythms. Vertical wooden segments echo architectural forms, while textile and felt elements introduce human scale, warmth, and movement.

The result is a transition from house to city, from craft to contemporary structure.
  • Narrative
Wood represents foundation, memory, and continuity.
Textile represents life, interaction, and human presence.
Together, they create a living structure — a city made of materials, not buildings.
This reflects the idea of Chișinău as a place shaped not only by architecture, but by layers of culture, craft, and everyday life.
  • Alignment with Local Touch
The project is rooted in local materials and craftsmanship, while expressed through a modern, design-driven aesthetic.
It translates Moldovan identity into a contemporary visual system that is both culturally relevant and suitable for a premium retail environment.
The artwork becomes an integrated part of the boutique experience, adding depth, tactility, and a sense of authenticity.
  • Merch Potential
The visual language can be extended into felt accessories, textile-based items, wooden details, and color-block compositions adapted for retail products.
“THE CITY HELD TOGETHER”

Nadia Izosimova × Igor Nicoruc
IDEA 2
Concept
A wall-based artwork combining carved wood elements and embroidered textile, presenting Chișinău as a human-centered, living environment.

At the core of the composition are three abstract human figures that form the structural and emotional foundation of the piece.

Between and around them, elements of the city buildings, streets, and urban fragments are embedded and “held” within their presence.

The composition creates a sense of unity, support, and shared space, where the city exists through human connection.

As shown in the visual references, the integration of wood and textile creates a layered surface where carved forms and embroidered narratives coexist.
  • Narrative
The city is not defined by its architecture alone.

It is shaped by people and their relationships.
The figures symbolically hold the city together, reflecting invisible but strong social bonds.

The textile layer introduces scenes of everyday life — walking figures, trees, small houses, birds — forming an intimate and emotionally warm image of the city.

This creates a contrast between structure and life, between form and story.
  • Alignment with Local Touch
This concept directly translates the idea of belonging into a visual narrative.
It connects tradition, craft, and contemporary art into a single integrated piece that reflects the identity of the city.
The artwork becomes not only a visual element, but a storytelling surface embedded in the boutique space.
  • Merch Potential
Embroidery patterns and narrative fragments can be adapted into textile-based merchandise, patches, limited editions, and collectible items connected to the artwork.
Local Touch turns
an opening into belonging.

This is how the boutique becomes part of the city.

From craft to contemporary.
From home to city.
From retail to cultural landmark.
